X Country Schooling 01/31/2012

Four of us went down to Paso Robles this weekend.  And all four of us returned with our cross country legs firmly underneath us once again.

It was a gorgeous day, weather was perfect and horses and ponies were quite exuberant.  Tina was riding her pony Luna.  Gab was making his debut on his now very own horse Gwen.  Brianna was on her young pony Maggie, it was a first long trailer and cross country course ever for this pony.  And I was on the big red mare, Sabina.

After a few bumps in the road our horses and riders got down to business of training for cross country. And, I have to say, it was fun to watch the riders put their “thinking caps” on and work to get their position back in a place to successfully gallop at solid fences.

  • Our youngest pair ( Brianna and Maggie) demonstrated that at some point in the future they were going to be a force to be reckoned with as long as they stay focused on job at hand. Maggie showed us that she could be a little sassy if need be.
  • Luna once again showed us her “make me” attitude. And once Tina got her firmly buckled between seat, leg and hand; they were confidently sailing over Training fences.
  • Gwen and Gab fine tuned their relationship a bit more. Gwen still showing us that although she is willing to please, she needs a driving confident force to rely on in order to really shine.
  • Sabina was truly a star. She did everything I asked of her in a quiet confident manner, while displaying a very confident jump and a balanced gallop.  It was easy to ask more of her, as she showed she is better prepared going into this season then she was the last.

Towards the end we did a bit of horse trading, Tina got on Sabina and I got to ride my new favorite pony, Maggie.  Maggie was a super star, and jumped quite a few things on the course in preparation for the Young Event Horse in April.

At the end of the day, full of happy chatter and tired horses (except for Gwen)  we were treated to wonderful Crab salad sandwiches that Dominic made for us, a true treat.

Overall, I think Team Grey Matter is ready for our first show in February.

January 2012 Newsletter

Hello friends,
It looks like it is that time of year again, the time of year when we start taking off to some well traveled venues where we prepare for the upcoming show season.

Our first stop was Yarra Yarra, the first show of the year and one where Tina did an amazing job riding a whole bunch of ponies. To read more about her adventure be sure to check out the results page.

This month will also see Team Grey Matter head out to Twin Rivers for some cross country schooling. This, of course, in preparation for the first horse trials of the season, Ram Tap.

This last month also saw the departure of Flyer. He finally found a home that will love and care for him, please join me in wishing him the very best as he start this next chapter of his life.

We currently have a very fancy pony for sale, Wildwych Luna (Luna); and a well mannered proven broodmare, Local Motion (Mo).

Yarra Yarra Dressage Show 01/22/2012

January 22nd was our first show date of the year, and it was all about Tina and the ponies.

We had planned on taking King’s Ransom (Tara) to get measured for her official pony card, but a spot opened up at the show; Tina hopped on Tara, rode beautifully, and to everyone’s delight, scored Tara’s first qualifying score.

Free Rayn Majesty (Maggie) was also just supposed to be measured; however, the rules state that the pony being measured has to actually be entered in a class at the show where the measuring is taking place. So, we turned to Tina to jump aboard and show the pony at her first show; and she did an amazing job. Maggie was fantastic as well.

Finally, the only pony and rider combination that was supposed to compete, Luna and Tina, had their debut at First Level. Needless to say the pair was spectacular and earned two qualifying scores their first time out.

Join us in congratulating Tina on her very successful show, and also a big thank you to the owners of the ponies for allowing her to show them.
